Passengers on the One Railway line suffered severe delays between Southend Victoria and London Liverpool Street this morning.
Bosses at the railway said the problem was due to points failures at Stratford, Liverpool Street, Ilford and Brentwood.
Engineers were still working on the problem by late morning.
Commuters suffered delays of up to an hour, short notice alterations and cancellations.
Snow and ice are believed to be responsible for causing the problems.
