A man had to be cut free from his car after a crash along a country road last night.

The accident occurred in Lower Road, Hockley, at around 5pm.

One car had left the road and rolled into a ditch, and it took an hour for firefighters to get the man free and into the care of the ambulance.

Sub Officer Andy Boreham said: "We initially stabilised the vehicle before using sets of heavy and normal Clan Lukas cutting equipment to remove the roof of the car.

"The man was then removed from the car on a spinal board and placed in the care of waiting ambulance crews."

The man sustained neck and back injuries during the crash and was unable to leave the car himself.
