More than half the commuters on the Shoebury to Fenchurch Street line do not feel they get value for money, according to a survey.

The National Passenger Survey, which was carried out in the autumn and asked 25,000 rail users nationwide to rate the performance of their lines, revealed just 43 per cent of passengers who use c2c feel the service is good value.

Less than half were satisfied with car parking at stations.

The rail operator recently angered passengers by doubling prices to park at some stations along the line.

This month, fares also increased by 4.3 per cent, above the rate of inflation.

Peter Slattery, co-chairman of the Southend Rail Travellers' Association, said: "The service they provide is good, but I think our fares are far too expensive.

"As for the car parking, Southend Council want to take away free parking near some stations. It's just increases, increases, increases at the moment."

However, the survey revealed 90 per cent of c2c users were satisfied with punctuality and 87 per cent praised the journey speed.

No one from c2c was available for comment.
