A MAN has been crushed to death in a freak accident while working on a transit van.
The man, aged in his thirties, was working underneath a blue transit van outside a property in Benderloch, Canvey when the jack collapsed in strong winds.
The van fell on top of him.
Emergency services were called to the incident at 10.45am this morning and doctors battled to save him.
However Essex Police have confirmed that the man, who is from Canvey, has now died.
The man's death is not being treated as suspicious and Essex Police will prepare a file for the coroner.
Benderloch Road was cordoned off while emergency services deal with the incident.
A spokesman from Essex Fire and Rescue said: "Crews were called to free a man trapped under a transit van.
"Firefighters arriving at the scene reported that it appears the casualty had been working under the vehicle when it came off its jack, trapping him.
"Crews used airbags to free the man by 11:10 hrs."
