A teenager is in hospital with serious head injuries after a two-car crash.
The 18-year-old from Brentwood, and a female passenger were travelling through Kennel Lane, near to the junction of Church Road, Billericay in a black Ford Fiesta when he crashed with a black Subaru Impreza.
Police and paramedics rushed to the scene and the teen was taken to Basildon Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.
A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "Three ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and an incident support unit manager were called to Kennel Lane.
"The 18-year-old man from Brentwood was taken to Basildon Hospital where the trauma team was on stand by for his arrival."
The teenager's passenger and the driver of the other car, a man whose age has not been released by police, were also taken to Basildon Hospital suffering minor injuries.
Kennel Lane was closed for four-and-a-half hours following the crash, which happened just after 11pm on Wednesday evening, reopening and 3.30am.
Police are now appealing for any witnesses to the crash to contact them at Laindon Road Policing Unit on 01268 541312.
