A woman was cut free from her car after it was involved in a crash with another vehicle in Sutton Road, Southend.
Firefighters used heavy Clan Lucas cutting equipment to remove the roof of the woman's Ford Fiesta after the collision.
The woman in the other car, a Ford Focus, managed to climb out of her vehicle herself and both women were taken to Southend Hospital.
Police closed the road near the Great Wakering turnoff following the accident.
Firefighters said the women were conscious and neither was thought to have suffered serious injuries in the crash, at about 6.30pm today.
