Roadworks are set to cause disruption for Southend motorists in the coming days.

Vehicles will be unable to travel to Scarborough Drive from its junction with the busy London Road and Manchester Drive due to new gas connection works taking place.

Southend Council has confirmed the temporary closure is scheduled to be put into action from 8am on February 8, with the works expected to take until February 12.

Alternative routes will be put in place, although the improvements could result in a build-up of traffic.

New gas connections works will also take place in the same time period on Lord Roberts Avenue, Leigh.

Vehicles will be unable to stop, wait, load or unload along a section of the road due to workers being on site.

Essex County Council has confirmed the road will be closed to motorists from the junction with Mount Avenue to its junction with Station Road.

The road block is set to be in place for three days as carriageway patching works are undertaken by Essex County Council.

An alternative route will be signposted via Mount Avenue, London Hill and Station Road.

The road will be temporarily closed from its junction with High Road to its junction with Nether Mayne, meaning a considerable stretch will be off limits to motorists.

The installation works are scheduled to get underway from February 15 and take three days to complete.

Motorists are advised to find an alternative route via Nether Mayne, Fobbing Farm Roundabout, College Road, Roundacre New Roundabout, Laindon Link, Hempstalls, Laindon Link Roundabout, Staneway and High Road.

The road closure will be put into action from February 2 for eight days, with new connection works being undertaken by UK Power Networks.

Motorists will be directed towards Pound Lane, Page Road and Highlands Road during the temporary closure.
