ANOTHER week has gone by and a whole host of vile criminals have been put behind bars.

Basildon Crown Court has heard more shocking cases this week, from a man imprisoning his own father, a paedophile threatening rape and two men who robbed a taxi driver.

Here is a rundown of the most serious cases heard this week.

Kevin Hutchinson and Roy O'Donoghue

Echo:

Kevin Hutchinson, 25, of Appleton Way Wickford and Roy O’Donoghue, 34, of Finchley Road, Westcliff targeted the driver in Appletree Way, Wickford at 2.45am on September 12.

The driver was left with bruising and swelling to his face and lost two teeth in the attack while the pair stole his phone.

Judge Samantha Leigh said both were trying to hide behind an excuse of being drunk.

She said: “This was a totally unprovoked attack and you were calling him a paedophile and saying you would kill him.

“ODonoghue you tried to strangle him and he was punched repeatedly.

“He was vulnerable and suffered psychical, mental and financial loss. You restrained the driver and this was not a fleeting attack and went on for a good few minutes.”

Both were jailed for more than ten years.

Tony Bull

Echo:

Tony Bull was slapped with a criminal behaviour order after failing to comply with a community protection notice in March and May last year.

The 49-year-old also admitted attacking a community safety officer from Southend Council, who had approached him as he was consuming butane gas in March.

The criminal behaviour order means Bull, of Manor Road, Westcliff, must abide by a number of conditions or could be arrested and taken to court.

Daine Edwards

Echo:

Daine Edwards has been jailed after assaulting his mother, smashing her window and demanding she give him money to fund his habit.

The 36-year-old has wracked up a total of 114 offences and has been committing crimes since he was a child.

Edwards, of Eastwood Road, Leigh, admitted assault, criminal damage, breaching a restraining order and stalking when he was jailed at Basildon Crown Court this week.

He received 17 months.

Michael Conreen

Echo:

Michael Conreen apologised profusely as he admitted three crimes against his dad as well as one relating to the police officer.

The 28-year-old - who was previously jailed for threatening people with a samurai sword - revealed he has suffered with “bad flashbacks” since attacking his father between June 22 and 25 last year.

Conreen, of Macdonald Avenue, Westcliff, was charged with four counts; unlawful imprisonment, making threats to kill, causing grievous bodily harm, and assaulting an emergency worker.

He will be jailed at a later date.

Karl Henry

Echo:

Henry was stung by a group of paedophile hunters after sending hundreds of sexual messages to four different profiles online, all claiming to be children under 13, between July and November last year.

The predator, of Great Ranton, Pitsea, already had a sexual harm prevention order in place on him meaning if he breached it he would go straight to jail.

This followed him being sentenced in February last year for performing sex acts on himself in his car in Edinburgh Way, Pitsea on December 2, 2019.

He was jailed for five years.
