Students will benefit from the most advanced technology in a new £9m college campus as part of a “one-of-a-kind” partnership with a leading international electronics company.
South Essex College’s new Centre for Digital Technologies is teaming up with leading Japanese manufacturer Sharp in a project which will also boast a series of apprenticeship opportunities.
The new campus, in Basildon town centre, offers students and staff the latest multifunction and production print devices, interactive touchscreens, device management software, digital signage and vibrant learning space furniture.
Students will also be supported by the Japanese corporation with the offer of apprenticeships, mentoring and work experience.
Angela O’Donoghue, principal and chief executive at South Essex College, hopes the state-of-the-art facilities on offer will allow students to flourish.
She said: “The college’s new Centre for Digital Technologies is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for students on courses with a tech focus including IT networking, app development, games design and animation.
“We’re very happy to be partnering with Sharp on this project so students can benefit from this industry-led educational experience.”

Sharp’s partnership with the Centre for Digital Technologies, which opened its doors to students for the first time last month, extends beyond providing cutting-edge technology. Sharp is also set to send four guest speakers to the college, where the company’s experts will share their experience of working in the global technology sector.
There are also plans to expand the partnership as the college’s technology suite takes shape.
Simon Warnes, director of connect partnerships at Sharp UK, said: “This has been an exciting project for the whole Sharp team. Given the year everyone has had, we wanted to ensure the value we are adding at South Essex College goes beyond the technology and facilities we’ve installed.
“We’re delighted to be partnering with the college long-term and to be able to lend our continued support, expertise and guidance to both students and staff.”
