Nearly two-thirds of people in both Southend and Basildon have received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, figures reveal.
NHS data shows 92,798 people had received a vaccine jab in Southend by April 18 – 63 per cent of those aged 16 and over, according to the latest population estimates from the Office for National Statistics.
Of those vaccinated, 65,055 were aged 50 and over – 92% of the age group.
It means 27,743 people aged between 16 to 49 have received a first dose of the vaccine.
In Basildon 92,621 people had received a vaccine jab by April 18.
Of those vaccinated, 64,189 were aged 50 and over – 95% of the age group.
It means 28,432 people aged between 16 to 49 have received a first dose of the vaccine.

The data also reveals variation in coverage between different areas across Southend and Basildon.
The proportion of residents prioritised for vaccinations, such as those aged 50 and over, is one factor that could affect vaccine coverage.
Areas with the highest coverage:
1) Thorpe Bay, with 72.3% of people aged 16 and over given their first dose
2) Wickford West, 72.2%
3) Billericay Tye Common, 70.8%
4) Southchurch, 70.4%
5) Eastwood Park, 70.3%
6) Billericay North East, 69.2%
Areas with the lowest coverage in Southend:
1) Kursaal, 52.9%
2) Southend Central, 53.5%
3) Leigh, 55%.
And Basildon:
1) Laindon Central, 52.4%
2) Basildon Central & Pipps Hill, 54.3%
3) Barstable, 56.3%.
Across England, 27.5 million people had received their first dose of a vaccine by April 18, covering 61% of the population aged 16 and over.
That includes 20 million people aged 50 and over – 95% of the age group.
The figures also show that 8.7 million people have had a second dose of the jab – 19% of people over 16.
A small number of people are not included due to their age being unknown.
