CARS weaved in and out of traffic and held up vehicles by suddenly stopping on Southend seafront.

As part of a car meet on Saturday evening, vehicles "performed dangerous manoeuvres" while wheel spinning in front of other road users.

Vehicles also held up traffic.

Police seized one vehicle at the scene, with several section 59 warnings issued.

Southend seafront was packed on Saturday afternoon, with Adventure Island and beer gardens all seeing huge crowds.

A dispersal order was introduced in Old Leigh from Saturday evening until Sunday night, after crowds of yobs refused to go home.

A spokesman from Essex Police, said: "On Saturday evening a car meet took place on Southend seafront with vehicles performing dangerous manoeuvres, coming to sudden stops holding up traffic and wheel spinning.

"Officers attended and several Section 59 warnings were issued, one vehicle seized and the driver dealt with for dangerous driving.

"CCTV and body worn video from officers will be viewed and further prosecutions will be brought against those present.

"We will be working with our partners looking at a long term solution to prevent this happening again."
