A CUTE seal was spotted catching the rays on Southend Pier this morning.
The seal, at the end of the Pier slipway, was caught on camera by the Southend Pier and Railway team.
The mammal needed a once over from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue, before he swum off to pastures new.
Two porpoises were seen off the pier in recent weeks.

A spokesman from the Southend Pier and Railway team, said: "Check out this cute little guy we caught on the pier cameras catching some early morning sunshine on the slipway at the end of the pier.
"Experts from British Divers Marine Life Rescue checked him over. With any luck he'll be off catching fish when high tide comes and be back to visit soon!
"Our little friend has been given a clean bill of health and has swum off to new shores for now."
