THE soundtrack of Ibiza will boom across Southend this summer as the town returns to a sense of normality.

Hundreds of party-goers will flock to the Summertime Live open air concert in July, a year after the festival was postponed because of the Covid pandemic.

A year on, Covid restrictions will have fully eased by the time it goes ahead, it is hoped.

The concert, in Garon Park, will be headlined by the Urban Soul Orchestra, who will perform their Classic Ibiza set.

Tickets for the gig on July 9 are almost already sold out.

Jonathan Ware, the man behind the event, said: “We were gutted when we had to postpone this event in 2020, but I think that makes this year’s event even more special.

“The audience have got a great night in store, with some of the biggest dance anthems of the last 30 years being brought to orchestral life on stage.

“It’s going to be a night to remember.”

Party-goers will see live roaming entertainers plus a number of bars and street food stalls.

Glitter make up stands will also be available. on the night.

Kimberley O’Connell, from Eastwood, believes a cautious approach is needed at Summertime Live. The 45-year-old, said: “We need to be going back to a sense of normality, but with some caution too.

“If the rates were low enough at that point, I would have no problem with my son going to something like this.

“The organisers are hedging their bets whether things like this will be allowed.

“It’s really up to the individual on whether they feel safe to go.

“You should be tested before you go in.”

Gates open at 4pm, with DJ’s underway from 6pm.

This comes as the Government trialled the return of night clubs and festivals in Liverpool in recent weeks.

Those attending were required to test negative for Covid before dancing the night away.

Organisers of Summertime Live are waiting to hear from the Government before announcing if negative tests are needed.

A spokesman said: “The government have been running pilot events, like the recent ones in Liverpool, to form a plan for this summer and will soon be releasing the findings and info for event organisers. As soon as they release this information we will make announcements for entry conditions.”
