POUNDLAND will be shutting up shop in Basildon Town Centre, and bosses have now confirmed why.
The lease to the store has now expired, with Poundland chiefs not renewing the contract on the building on Town Square.
The closure on May 29 leaves Poundland with a shop in the Eastgate Shopping Centre and in Pitsea.
Bosses insisted staff will be "looked after" as the store shuts its doors.

A spokesman from Poundland, said: "We're sad to be closing our store at Town Square, Basildon, on May 29 because the lease has expired, but we'll still be offering customers amazing value at the nearby Eastgate Centre and at Old Market Retail Park in Pitsea.
"Where we close a store, it goes without saying we always work hard to look after colleagues directly affected."
