A DOG was left for three hours locked inside a car ... while the owner went to the pub.
The pet pooch was "gasping for breath" when community safety teams smashed through the car window in Southend.
Following the rescue of the dog on Sunday, a man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
Sunday's weather saw scorching temperatures and bright sunshine.

A spokesman from Safer Southend, said: "A dog was locked in a car for over three hours in this heat.
"The owners were in a pub, the window was smashed as the dog was gasping for breath."
