Basildon: NHS workers to march demanding 15% pay rise

The rally organised by Nurses United is be held from Basildon Hospital on Saturday July 3 from 11am.

There's also set to be a march in Colchester too on the same day.

The campaigners are demanding the rise they say they were denied last year by the Government during the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

The day of protesting has been called by Keep Our NHS Public, Health Campaigns Together, NHS Workers Say No and NHS Staff Voices.

An event spokesman said: "We are worth so much more than the 1%. NHS workers have lost as much as a fifth of our pay since 2010.

"We are a group of NHS workers in Essex demanding a 15 per cent restorative pay rise to bring us back to safety. There are over a 100,000 vacancies across our NHS so anything less than this will put our patients at risk.

"We became healthcare workers to care for others and if we do not take action, our patients will never be safe."

The campaigners say they want to see as many people as possible at the hospital for the rally which will be followed by a march through Basildon Town Centre.

The action day falls on the 73rd anniversary of the creation of the NHS.

Demonstrations will also be taking place in more than 30 other towns and cities across the country at a similar time.
