A £1MILLION handout will help create more public play areas in Thurrock.
The borough's MP, Andrew Mackinlay, welcomed the Government money and urged the community to help decide where it should be spent.
The cash has been given to refurbish existing playgrounds across the borough and to create about 30 new facilities where they are most needed.
Mr Mackinlay said: "This is great.
"We are one of the first parts of the country to have been chosen to get this funding.
"It will mean we can develop and rebuild children's play areas across our community, benefiting thousands of children and families in our area.
"Play is vital to help children have fun, but it can also keep them happy and healthy and allow them to develop and explore the world."
The funding has also been welcomed by Thurrock Play Network, which offers independent advice, support and resources for play and recreation.
Manager Carol O'Regan, said: "Any money for play has to be a bonus for Thurrock children."
The funding is part of a £235 million Government investment in play facilities over the next three years to make them safer and more interesting for children.
Residents with suggestions about ways in which the money should be spend should from to Mr Mackinlay's office, 10 Commonwealth House, Montreal Road, Tilbury, RM18 7QX.
