WORKERS across Basildon and Thurrock united to raise precious funds for a hospice.
Thousands of firms took part in a Bring a Pound into Work day, organised by St Luke's Hospice.
Alison Jones, from St Luke's, said: "It was a big success. We've had lots of people write into us saying how much they enjoyed getting involved.
"Apparently some firms made it a dress down day too.
"We're going to make it an annual event now on the last Friday of every February. We've so far collected £4,500 and more money is still coming in."
All the funds will be spent on patient care at the hospice.
Sue Fedelmesi, general manager of BI Communications which makes cable testing equipment, on Burnt Mills Industrial Estate, Basildon, said: "We are only a small company, so there only about nine of us, but we all took part, which was nice because it's such a good cause."
