COMMUTERS have welcomed plans for a new £1.9million footbridge between the c2c station at Limehouse and the Docklands Light Railway.
The new link, funded by Transport for London and the Department for Transport, will allow swift and easy access from the c2c to DLR platforms.
At the moment, passengers at c2c's Limehouse station seeking to continue their journey via the DLR towards Canary Wharf have to walk downstairs to a lower-level platform and then use stairs or a lift again up to the DLR.
Commuter Andy McMenemy, 32, of Benfleet, said: "It can be a nightmare in the mornings trying to get from the c2c line to the DLR so I can get to work at Canary Wharf.
"It seems this proposal will reduce the journey time which is really good news."
Joanne Peters, 28, of Basildon, added: "If it makes things easier, I think that would be really welcomed by people using the c2c line."
Jonathan Fox, director of DLR, said: "DLR is determined to keep pace with ever-increasing demand and will continue to implement these type of initiatives, in conjunction with Government."
