THE Canvey Horticultural Society held its first event of the year on Saturday at its new show venue.
The show took place at the Baptist Church hall in the High Street, Canvey, and was a resounding success with 79 entries.
This year, exhibitors were only allowed to enter one item in each class.
In previous years, they were allowed to enter as many as they wished.
The winners, who are all from Canvey, were:
- Pat Harding, 63, in the daffodils and narcissi section
- Grace Scantlebury, 80, in the tulip section
- Jean Ellis, 66, in the vegetables section
- Phyllis Owens, 84, in the handicraft section
- Harry Sullivan, 7, in the junior handicraft section.
The Best Bloom and Best Exhibit in Show also went to Pat Harding.
From this year, the society is not awarding trophies at each show.
Instead, they have organised an awards ceremony which will be held immediately after the annual meeting in December.
All trophy winners will be given an invitation to attend the ceremony.
They will then keep the trophies until the following year.
This year, the ceremony and annual meeting on December 11 will be held at the Women's Institute Hall, in Lionel Road, Canvey.
The summer show will be on July 5 and will be held at the Baptist Church hall.
Organisers hope to see even more people either visiting or entering and everyone is welcome.
