POLICE caught and fined dozens of motorists in a crackdown on dangerous driving.
Four police constables and three police community support officers stopped 67 vehicles, in High Street, Aveley, and nearby Romford Road.
They fined 64 of them for not wearing a seatbelt, two for talking or texting on their mobile phones at the wheel, and another for driving without a tax disc.
Police Constable Emmie Yeo said: "It was a big success and I really feel we raised awareness of the importance of driving safely."
Police launched the operation, from 10am to 2pm on Friday, in response to shopkeepers' and residents' concerns about dangerous driving in the area.
There are plans for more road safety operations across Aveley, Purfleet, and South Ockendon.
