MORE than 30 walkers gathered at Waterside Farm for an annual sponsored walk around Canvey's sea wall.
In the past 12 years, the walk has raised more than £12,000 to buy items of medical equipment which are then loaned to local residents and GP surgeries on the island.
Geoff Barsby organised the walk, which started at the Labworth restaurant, in Eastern Esplanade.
He said: "The money raised has allowed us to continue to purchase nebulizers and heart monitors.
"We have given more than 1,000 pieces of equipment to help make people's lives that little bit easier. I would like to mention the welcome support by local traders GMD, Canvey Supply, Jacqui's Jewellery, Sophisticuts and Star cinemas, who donated a free ticket to the movies for every participant. My thanks go out volunteers who took part in the walk and raised much needed funds."
