SHOPPERS have joined the fight against purse thieves with a simple device.
Purse chains enable people to secure their wallets to their bags and prevent pickpockets from stealing them.
Police community support officer Daniel Brady joined colleagues from Basildon's town policing unit to dish out 1,000 of the chains, which were funded by the Eastgate Centre.
Officers also gave out bottles and stickers to pensioners at Basildon's Eastgate Centre.
The are used to store details of their doctor, medication and next of kin so police have the necessary details to hand if they are called to the home of a collapsed elderly resident.
