A TALK on the Plotlands and Old Laindon will be given at Laindon Library.
Local historian Ken Porter will give the talk, from 3pm to 5pm, on Wednesday, April 23.
Plotlands were small areas of land across Basildon district, which people from London bought between the two world wars to build summer homes on.
They tended to build bungalows on the sites and many people ended up living in these permanently.
Tickets for the talk are free, but booking is advisable.
The library will continue the local theme on Saturday, April 26, with displays of old maps of the area and a photographic exhibition.
Visitors will also be invited to share their memories with an oral historian from the Essex Record Office and meet local authors who will be there to talk about their books.
To find out more call the library 01268 542065.
