HOMELESS people were given an opportunity to appreciate the colours of spring as part of a new scheme organised by South Essex Homes.
People living in the council's hostels, joined young people from the YMCA and people with learning difficulties from the Growing Together allotment project on a visit to Meadowfield Nature Study Centre, in Church Road, Hockley.
They were shown around and introduced to different species of animals and insects.
Ross Gardner, centre manager for Meadowfield, said: "The aim was to share the positive aspects of the countryside, making it accessible to all and show how it can be experienced and enjoyed.
"Even in a town like Southend people don't realise the opportunities for enjoying the peace and beauty of nature, and appreciate caring for the environment is important to both wildlife and people."
It is hoped that visits can become regular events.
