A NEW weapon in the fight to stamp out under age drinking has been unveiled.
Officers in Castle Point have been issued with special drink testing strips which detect alcohol in soft drinks.
The strips, which do not contaminate the drink, have been paid for by the Castle Point Crime and Disorder reduction Partnership.
Castle Point District Commander Chief Inspector Paul Eveleigh said: "Under-age drinking leads to nuisance and rowdy behaviour, and sometimes to more serious offences.
"These testing strips easily show whether a drink contains alcohol and will be particularly useful where it is claimed that the drink is just a soft drink."
