A MAN has collected 38,000 supermarket vouchers in a month towards buying computer equipment for Basildon Hospital's children's ward.
Brian Jiggens, 55, of Kenneth Road, Pitsea, has been asking family, friends and shoppers, to donate any Tesco Computer for Schools vouchers they recieve by paying for groceries.
He has boosted the numbers by standing outside supermarkets across the county, with a sign asking people to hand over any vouchers they do not want.
He has collected them for the school room at Basildon Hospital's children's ward.
Mr Jiggens said: "They will buy computers and software to help children keep on learning while they are in hospital.
"I think around 72,000 vouchers will buy a computer.
"It has been going really well so far and everyone has been really, really generous."
Anyone with spare vouchers can send them to him at 71 Kenneth Road, Pitsea, Basildon, Essex, SS13 2BW.
They can also be dropped into his workplace at the Disability Information and Advice Line office, in the Basildon Centre.
