A COMMUNITY radio station is hoping to get people all shook up and raise money to build new studios.
Link Radio broadcasts into old people's homes around Castle Point 24 hours a day, all year from its studios at Westwood Court, Hadleigh.
But the temporary buildings, which the station has been operating from for nearly 25 years, are judged to be beyond repair and rotten.
Now the station, which goes out free to subscribers, has a year to raise as much as £100,000 for its new premises.
It is throwing a Sixties disco featuring Elvis impersonator John King, from Wickford, on Friday, April 25.
Chairman of the Link Radio Trust, John Brennan, said: "It is going to cost an awful lot of money. The designs we have been looking at cost between £40,000 and £100,000.
"We have been working hard to help ourselves, but we're going to need the help of the community too."
The charity has already started its fundraising with a series of quiz nights, but this Friday's disco is the first of several events which include a golf tournament and an clarevoyance evening.
Link Radio is run entirely by volunteers and broadcasts a range of music, community stories and its popular show Getting to Know You, where local people talk about their jobs and favourite tunes.
Mr Brennan believes the station is a vital window on the world for people who may not be able to get out so much anymore.
