TRAFFIC lights at a busy crossroads have been replaced with new ones which use the latest technology.
The new system, at the junction of Western Road and Norsey Road, in Billericay, uses low voltage lights and an intelligent traffic control system to monitor the flow of vehicles.
Scott Wilson, a spokes- man for Essex County Council, said: "The new system is a first for Billericay, and the low voltage traffic lights are better for the environment and need changing less."
The nearby pedestrian crossing, in High Street, has been removed and walkers can now cross at the traffic lights.
