A HOUSING manager who has helped out arson victims, bought food for the elderly following a power cut and tried to stamp out antisocial behaviour has been shortlisted for a national award.
Traci Dixon, who works for South Essex Homes, is up for the top manager award because of her commitment and hard work in helping residents.
Part of her work has seen Mrs Dixon, from Benfleet, help residents move home after a fire ripped through Mornington Hou-se in Westcliff last year.
The 45-year-old also bought fish and chips for elderly residents after a power cut hit a sheltered accommodation block in Southend.
The mother-of-two said: "I was really shocked when I found out I had been nominated.
"I probably do things which are considered beyond my job role.
"We just want to make sure all the residents at South Essex Homes are happy."
South Essex Homes is an arms length management organisation that runs Southend Council's housing stock.
The award ceremony will be held in May and Mrs Dixon has been shortlisted with two others from across the country for the top manager award.
Steve Hale, from Lovell Partnerships, which is sponsoring the event, was part of the judging team for the shortlist.
He said: "Traci is an inspiration to us all.
"She has taken a lead role in working with tenants and officers to combat inequality and antisocial behaviour, making a real difference in the community she is living and working in. It was a tough category to call, but her dedication and commitment shone through.
We should be very proud of the people like Traci, who are working hard for the benefit of their communities."
