A DOCKER has said farewell to the port where he spent his entire working life, spanning 50 years.
Former Tilbury man George Cox, 65, of Graham Close, Hockley, retired on April 18, just two days before his 65th birthday.
George, who was born in Bermuda Road, Tilbury, and attended St Chads School, had worked in various clerical roles at Tilbury docks for 50 years.
He said: "I think I shall miss all my work colleagues.
"I was there for 50 years and I will miss the laughing and joking. I enjoyed work. On my last day everyone came to my office and took me to the board room where there were drinks and sandwiches."
George's workmates presented him with two crystal decanters engraved with his name, as well as champagne, wine and £100 of Lakeside vouchers.
George, who is married to June, 60, has two sons and two grandaughters.
He plans to spend his retirement gardening, holidaying and "doing those little jobs you never get the chance to do".
