ROWDY neighbours are being warned they risk a £5,000 fine if they don't keep the noise down.
Basildon Council has issued the warning as it prepares to resume late-night noise patrols.
Environmental health officials will be on the beat throughout the summer to deal with reports of antisocial behaviour.
In persistent cases, officials will issue a noise abatement notice, which if breached can result in a £5,000 fine and seizure of any equipment.
Graham Bannister, a senior environmental health office for Basildon Council, said: "Summer is the busiest time of year for noise complaints, with blaring music and rowdy parties responsible for most disturbances.
"Our noise patrol is there to intervene in situations where excessive noise is causing other residents misery and distress.
"Most people aren't aware of the noise they are making and are happy to lower the volume when they receive a visit from our patrol and the police.
"We would urge people to be considerate about the noise they produce to ensure their enjoyment doesn't spoil someone else's evening."
Last year the noise patrol received more than 250 calls and issued 45 noise abatement notices.
Rowdy neighbours who receive a visit from the patrol will first be asked to reduce their noise and sent a formal letter.
If they carry on making unacceptable noise they will be fined.
The patrol will react to complaints between 9.30pm and 2.30am, on Friday and Saturday nights, from now until September.
