A ROBBER threatened to stab three young boys unless they handed over their mobile phones.

The boys, two aged ten and one 11, were playing in Chalkwell Park, when a man on a silver bike rode up and made the threat.

They handed him a Motorola L6, a Nokia 310 and a Samsung D900, worth a total of £300. Police do not believe the man had a knife. He rode off through the park and on to London Road.

Julia Pack, spokesman for Essex Police said: "This was a scary experience for the victims, who did the right thing and handed over their mobiles without arguing.

"We would ask anyone who saw this incident take place, or saw any suspicious behaviour in the park, to call investigating officers."

Anyone with information about the robbery, at 12.40pm last Thursday, is asked to call Leigh police station on 0300 3334444, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

l A 22-year-old man from Westcliff was arrested shortly after the incident.
