PEOPLE hoping to see the world's largest tallship today will be disappointed.
The Sedov, which was due at Southend Pier at noon today, will not now be docking as planned.
Instead, a Dutch three-masted barque tall ship, will be arriving at Southend on Friday.
The Artemis will be docked at Southend for three days offering visitors the opportunity to step on board or even take part in a sailing trip.
The council has given assurances that those who bought tickets to board the Sedov will be able to use them for the Artemis instead.
One of the last traditional whalers, the 200ft long vessel's visit is a real coup for Southend.
Anita Thornberry, Southend Council's head of enterprise, tourism and regeneration, said: "This is a great opportunity for visitors to journey on and view the Artemis as it is the first time the beautiful vessel has ever docked in Southend.
"Although we are disappointed the Sedov is unable to make it now due to operational problems beyond our control, the Council and European Maritime Events have worked very hard and successfully to secure this alternative vessel for visitors."
The Artemis will be arriving at the Pier Head on Friday, May 2 in the morning where she will be open to the public to view free of charge until late afternoon on Monday, May 5 when she will be departing for Hamburg.
The Artemis will be providing sailing trips originally booked by members of the public on the Sedov, with a choice of sailing times. Anyone who would prefer not to transfer to the Artemis will receive a full refund.
