A THURROCK electrician and his apprentices are set to take part in the Amazon Raft Race 2008.
Steven Reeves, who works for PL Taylor Electrical Services, has entered the race with colleagues Josh Babbington, 23, of St James Avenue West, Stanford-le-Hope, and Andy Flegg, 23, from Kent.
Steven, 31, of Upton Close, Stanford-le-Hope, said he entered because he thought it would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
He said: "I am amazed I am going to be surrounded by snakes as long as lamp posts. It will indeed be an adventure.
"I think I'll get a lot out of this experience because I'll be satisfied I have accomplished something like this.
The race is along the Peruvian stretch of the Amazon River and will take place in mid September.
The aim is to build rafts from logs and jungle vine, then row for three consecutive days, covering 130 miles.
It is popular among rowing teams all over the world and has been running for 10 years.
After the three days of rowing through the Amazon, they will receive a trophy celebrating their achievement.
