A WOMAN has called for a school to be issued an Asbo after claiming teachers are causing parking chaos and litter by smoking in the street.

Ann Gayford, 68, of Nethan Drive, Aveley, says Belhus Chase School, in Thurrock, is proving a poor neighbour and she would like the borough council to issue it with an anti-social behaviour order.

She said: "The school has obviously insufficient parking and therefore they park on the road and even on the pavement.

"Now we have to deal with yet another problem - the smokers. In all weathers staff are out in the street frantically puffing away.

"If only they would take their dog ends and discarded cigarette packets in with them and dispose of them properly, not throw them in my street. Can you issue an Asbo against a school?"

Head of Belhus Chase, Tess Walker, said she was disappointed by the complaint.

She said: "I know it's not nice for cars to park along the road you live in, but it is not illegal.

"So long as none of the vehicles is parked illegally, there is no problem - if the vehicle is illegal or parked illegally I would be the first to contact the police.

"As far as litter and smoking is concerned, staff are directed to use the refuse bins provided as are the pupils. The school regularly sweeps around the bins outside the school."

Thurrock Council said an Asbo had to be issued against a named person.
