FOUR men have appeared in court charged with grievous bodily harm with intent following an attack on a man in Southend. A 47-year-old man was injured outside County Cycles, a closed down bike shop, in Sutton Road, Southend, at 5.30pm on Sunday. Alan Ayres, 24, of Cranleigh Road, Westcliff, Jason Balding, 28, of Nevern Road, Rayleigh, John Dawe, 23, of Fowler Close, Southend, and Kirk Micklewright, 25, of Sutton Road, Southend appeared at Southend Magistrates' Court on Saturday. Dawe was also charged with possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and one count of possessing an offensive weapon. Micklewright was also charged with possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. The men spoke only to confirm their names and addresses at the hearing. All four have been remanded in custody to appear at Basildon Crown Court on December 5. A 29-year-old woman and a 21-year-old woman, both from Southend, have been released on police bail until November 24 on suspicion of assisting an offender. A 21-year-old woman from Southend and a 19-year-old man from Westcliff were cautioned for possession of cannabis. They were released on police bail until November 24 pending further inquiries about suspected possession of a firearm.
