A GIANT light bulb might sound like a waste of energy, but a huge 16ft monster of a bulb was in Basildon to promote greener energy.

The giant bulb was part of an energy saving roadshow, which pulled up outside the Gala Bingo Club, on Southernhey.

The ecology promoting tour is being run by Southern Electric in conjunction with Gala Bingo and their charity partner Sue Ryder Care.

It is travelling around the UK and will have given away a total of three million energy saving light bulbs by the time it is finished.

If all these bulbs are fitted in people’s homes, a total of more than £11million would be saved from household energy bills.

Steven Millward, energy efficiency manager at Southern Electric, said: “Even though people may think it’s too small to make an impact, it is an important step in the right direction.

“If everyone who collects a free pack of bulbs installs them, the resulting total impact will certainly be significant.”
