A DANCE inspired by concerns about climate change has helped students win a prestigious award.
The group from Seevic College, Thundersley, taught themselves to breakdance and pulled off moves including back flips and high kicks during the performance at the Global Rock Challenge competition in Stevenage, Herts.
Their performance, called When We Walk, dealt with issues around carbon footprints and global warming and won the award for best concept interpretation at the contest.
Performance studies tutor Rhiannon O’Brien said: “The students performed an eight-minute dance piece.
“As it was our first time participating in the event we were extremely pleased to be presented with an award for best concept interpretation.”
The contest is organised by the Be Your Best Foundation and aims to promote healthy lifestyles by holding performance art events.
Student Ben Brace, 17, who lives in Benfleet, said: “I was really glad to be involved in such an exciting project. We had a great day and the whole experience was a big learning curve for me.
