TWO more Canvey residents have tested positive for swine flu.
NHS South East Essex confirmed two people who recently returned from holiday in the USA have tested positive.
This follows two children from Castle View School contracting the virus a fortnight ago.
Dr Andrea Atherton, director of public health for the health trust, said: “I can confirm that two residents of Canvey have tested positive for the swine flu virus. They had recently travelled home from the USA. They have received the anti-viral drug Tamiflu and are responding well to treatment at home.”
She added the family and other close contacts of the patients have received anti-virals and are symptom free.
She added: “It is important to stress that the symptoms of swine flu are relatively speaking, mild and to date we have had 14 confirmed in the whole of the East of England.
“We would like to reassure local residents that unless you have flu-like symptoms and are being tested for swine flu, there is absolutely no need to stop your normal everyday activities, such as going to work. We would like to reassure people that the risk of transmission still remains small.”
