SOUTHEND has its first case of swine flu.
NHS South East Essex has revealed a resident tested positive for the virus after travelling home from America.
Dr Andrea Atherton, director of public health at NHS South East Essex, said the patient had been given anti-viral drugs.
She added: "It is important to stress that in the majority of cases, the symptoms of swine flu are relatively speaking, mild, and to date we have had 5 confirmed cases in south east Essex and 35 confirmed in the whole of the East of England."
Anyone worried can get up to date information by calling the national swine flu information line on 0800 1 513 513.
