A FORMER Milky Bar Kid has been drafted in to judge this year’s Canvey’s Got Talent...after two Elvis impersonators had a bust up and stormed out.

Three impersonators of the legendary “King” were lined up as judges alongside a Havens Hospice representative and MP Bob Spink, when disaster struck.

The row was apparently over one Elvis wanting to borrow another’s cape, but organiser James O’Brien refused outright to elaborate.

Yet when they walked he was extremely keen to add a bit of celebrity to the judging panel and quickly tracked down Steve Harris, the second-ever Milky Bar Kid.

Steve, 53, who can often be spotted driving around the island in a white Mini with the number plate Milky, played the iconic role between 1965 and 1966 and was happy to offer his services.

He said: “I can be the Simon Cowell of Canvey Island.

“It should be a nice good day out, a good laugh and all very tongue in cheek.”

Modelled on the popular TV show Britain’s Got Talent, won last week by Essex dance group Diversity, the event at Canvey’s Thorney Bay Caravan Park is now in its second year.

It is due to take place on Sunday, June 14.

As well as the talent contest it will feature a bouncy castle, pool competition and a chance to use the park’s open air swimming pool.

All proceeds will go to Havens Hospices and last year’s event raised £1,400.
