TWO teachers at a south Essex secondary school have been diagnosed with swine flu.
Parents of children at FitzWimarc School, in Rayleigh, have been sent letters about the two confirmed cases and leaflets containing advice.
The school remains open, but six families have taken up the option to remove their children as a precaution.
Headteacher Jim Fuller telephoned the families of all children known to have conditions which could make them vulnerable.
He said: “We have been particularly careful in informing anybody that’s vulnerable. That’s anybody with a heart or a lung condition.
The two teachers, who are room-mates, tested positive for the virus on Saturday and letters were sent out immediately on Monday morning.
A third teacher began sneezing on Monday and was sent home, but tests later revealed he was free of the virus and he has returned to school.
Mr Fuller said he had been advised by the Health Protection Agency to keep the school open, but parents were given the option to remove their children.
