AN IRATE resident is calling for action after a tree as tall as a house came tumbling down in a residential road — blocking off the street.
Wendy Cox, 49, of Perry Springs, Vange, says she has been badgering Basildon Council for five years to cut down a row of overgrown Poplar trees which line the street. She told how many of her neighbours feel the same.
Yesterday, one of the trees was blown down by the wind, which ended up blocking the road.
The mum, who has lived in Perry Springs for 14 years, said: “These trees have needed to be cut down for years. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve asked the council to come out to do something about them,”
“Not only are they a hazard, as the wind proved on Wednesday, but they also leave one of the street lights in the road is on all day because the trees make the area so dark. Because of the trees the light never goes off. How much electricity is this wasting?
“I hope this latest incident will now galvanise the council into action.”
