SEVEN people have been arrested following a string of burglaries on Canvey.
Police launched an operation, which combined high visibility patrols and stop checks, after 46 raids across Castle Point in December.
Chief Insp Keith Davies thanked residents who have been calling up with key information.
He said: “I think we’ve pretty well dealt with some people coming on to the island who commit these offences, but I know there are others still out there. The operation has been a real team effort.”
Danny Lane, 30, of Seaview Road, Canvey, was arrested for stealing a Nintendo Wii games console from a house in his road on December 9.
He appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to burglary and was bailed until his sentencing on January 18.
Micky Johnson, 18, of Thorney Bay Caravan Park, appeared at the same court accused of a burglary in Letzen Road, on December 21.
Cash, games consoles, a DVD player, laptop, freeview box and some jewellery were stolen from the property.
He is also accused of burgling a home in Waarden Road on December 12, where electrical goods and cash were stolen. He entered no plea and was remanded in custody until his trial at Basildon Crown Court on February 26.
Police also arrested two Basildon teenagers, aged 16 and 15, who they believed travelled to the island to commit a burglary. The younger boy pleaded guilty and will be sentenced tomorrow, while the other denied the offence and will stand trial.
A 15-year-old boy, from Canvey, admitted handling stolen goods and received an eight-month referral order.
Another 16-year-old Canvey youngster was charged with the same offence, but pleaded not guilty and will stand trial at Grays Magistrates’ Court on February 12.
Finally, Bobby Beresford, 22, of Long Road, Canvey, was charged with a burglary, on December 10, during which a car was stolen. The break-in happened at a house in Second Avenue where a Vauxhall Corsa, jewellery, and debit cards were stolen. He will stand trial on Friday.
A haul of jewellery believed to have been stolen from homes across Canvey and Benfleet were put on display at the police station.
This resulted in three rings and a gold bracelet being returned to their rightful owners.
