Police are warning motorists to stay at home on Friday as the big freeze continues.
Helen Cook, spokeswoman for Essex Police, said the county's roads are deserted as schools close and people opt to stay at home.
She said officers are urging motorists to stay indoors to avoid the treacherous roads.
She said: "With freezing temperatures expected to continue our message remains the same; please stay at home tomorrow and travel only if essential.
"The roads, especially side roads, are likely to be icy and treacherous with black ice.
"If anyone has to take to the roads then they should take with them a charged mobile telephone, warm clothing and a blanket and a hot drink in case they break down."
