A MAN has been cautioned by police after he bragged on Facebook about vandalising a railway station.
Steve Budd, 23, was arrested by officers from the British Transport Police.
He was given a caution, which is handed out by police to offenders who admit their guilt after committing less serious crimes.
A spokeswoman for the transport police said: “A 23-year-old man from Stanford-le-Hope has received a police caution following an incident of criminal damage at Stanford-le-Hope rail station on Tuesday, January 18.”
Last month, the Echo revealed Steve Budd, 23, of Redlie Close, Stanford-le-Hope admitted on his Facebook page to trashing Stanford-le-Hope railway station.
Police said a picket fence was hurled on to the tracks and stones and rocks were thrown at the booking hall, smashing the windows. A bicycle in a rack was also stamped on and a wheelie bin was thrown from the footbridge on to the platform.
A train driver, who spotted the bin, was forced to stop short of the platform so he could remove it.
On his Facebook page Budd said: “If ur missing a wheeley bin this morning in Stanny, it’s either in the phone box or I threw it off the bridge over the station on to the platform.
“It was fun at the time.”
Mr Budd said he carried out the vandalism after drinking “Carling, Fosters, Jagerbombs and vodka and coke”.
When confronted by the Echo about his online confession Budd insisted the comments were posted by friends playing a prank and he wasn’t “stupid enough” to commit a crime and write about it on Facebook.
But he was later arrested by transport police and admitted the crime.
The Echo contacted Mr Budd through Facebook for a comment, but he did not respond.
