neighbours living near the Royal Bank of Scotland offices in Westcliff are getting hot under the collar about staff parking in their roads.
Residents in roads off the A127 Prince Avenue, have complained about staff from the RBS centre, in Thanet Grange, clogging up their roads and even blocking their driveways.
Iris Chatfield, 68, who lives in Denton Avenue, has described angry confrontations between neighbours and RBS staff over the “dangerous parking” issue.
She said: “They’re getting on everyone’s nerves up and down the road. They park everywhere Whenever there’s a parking space, they’re on it.
“If a fire engine tried to come down here, there would be a problem. Something has to be done about it. It’s getting quite heated now.”
Mrs Chatfield, a grandmother, said the road typically becomes busy from 11am until 4pm and it is also a problem in nearby roads Denton Approach, Purley Way and Feeches Road.
She called for the route from the A127 Prince Avenue through Denton Approach to be blocked off to stop the roads being used as a cut through.
Sylvia and Lionel Marsden, who also live in the road, agreed.
Mrs Marsden, 68, who also lives in the road, said RBS cars are often parked up on the pavement too.
She said: “Every day it’s constant, from Monday to Friday. We are having problems getting in and out of our homes.
“It’s because RBS hasn’t provided enough parking spaces for its staff.
“Our neighbours are really upset by it. It’s just getting worse and worse.”
New St Laurence Tory councillor Adam Jones said he is working to address the problem.
He said: “There’s been complaints about staff blocking residents’ driveways.
“It’s becoming an increasing problem.”
But an RBS spokesman said the company was working to address the issue by minimising the number of staff who drive to work.
He said: “A majority of our car park spaces are dedicated to participants of a car-sharing scheme.
“We have recently expanded our bus service provision, providing staff with a free service from the town centre and now Rayleigh railway station.
“Following a successful campaign with Cycle Southend we are also expanding our on-site cycle storage facilities.”
