WORK to improve safety on a controversial slip road junction in Basildon has been carried out.
White lines have been painted on the A176/A127 junction at Noak Bridge.
Additional “give way” signs have recently been added at the end of the slip lane, and reflective road studs are set to be installed in the coming weeks. These will enhance visibility for motorists in the evening.
The slip roads – one heading towards Pipps Hill and another coming off the A127 towards Billericay – cost £14.7million to put in.
They were opened last month as part of the Basildon Enterprise Corridor Scheme, but County Hall has carried out additional work at the site since then following driver feedback and a road safety audit.
Motorists claimed the lanes were dangerous due to blind spots at the new give-way junctions, which meant they needed to turn around at an uncomfortable angle to see oncoming traffic. Motorists have seen the lanes coned off on several occasions, but the county council says this is only because works are being carried out.
The spokesman added: “There are cones around the island at present to make the island on the roundabout more visible at night, in advance of permanent measures being completed.”
