MAKE a splash for charity is the message from Havens Hospices as it encourages people to take part in the 2011 Great Pier Swim.
The event, on Saturday, July 30, will see participants tackle a bracing 3km swim around Southend pier from Jubilee Beach to Thorpe Bay.
Swimmers can also opt to be timed for an ASA-affiliated race, and all participants will receive a medal for their efforts.
The charity, which runs Fair Havens adult hospice in Westcliff and Little Havens Children's Hospice in Thundersley, hopes the event will raise £30,000 which will fund a hospice nurse for a year.
Events fundraiser Cerena Ashwell said: “It doesn’t matter how experienced you are, what age you are or if you’ve ever been swimming in the sea before. The swim gives people the chance to try something new and exciting.”
Entry costs £20, with the race option costing £25. To register or for further information contact Cerena on 01702 221650, email cashwell@havenshospices.org.uk or register online at www.havenshospices.org.uk/events
